Ian Abbotts originally qualified as an environmental health officer and is a Chartered Member of The Institute of Environmental Health. He spent a number of years working in food manufacturing before joining Marks & Spencer – where he spent 25 years as the Senior Hygiene Technologist. Ian was responsible for the M&S Hygiene team, the training of Food Technologists, Food Hygiene Policy and Codes of Practice and Guidelines, as well as auditing and approval of new food suppliers on a worldwide basis.
Ian has worked with many food manufacturing companies on improving their food safety and hygiene standards, and is widely known in the UK food industry for his practical, collaborative and constructive approach.
Beyond his work as a consultant, Ian also offers food safety and hygiene training through The Global Food Safety Company – which he founded with fellow food technical consultant, Liam Doyle. Their client list includes Marks and Spencer, Aldi and Sainsbury’s.
